RANTAU PANJANG PARLIAMENTARY SEAT EX-CANDIDATE LODGES POLICE REPORT

RANTAU PANJANG, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Isma Airfath Hasanuddin, the defeated independent candidate for the Rantau Panjang parliamentary seat in the March 8 general election, has lodged a police report denying that he was sponsored by individuals within Umno in the election.

Isma Airfath, 38, better known as "Kosing, lodged the report at the Pasir Mas police headquarters yesterday, claiming that his signature in a letter to the Umno disciplinary board, confessing to being paid to contest, was forged.

He told Bernama here today that he had never met the four Rantau Panjang Umno members who were suspended by the disciplinary board recently in connection with the case. He said he had used his own funds besides being sponsored by his promoter, Nik Mustafa Nik Loding, a former Semangat 46 executive member, in the election.

The Umno disciplinary board on Sept 22 suspended Rantau Panjang Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Zain Ismail, treasurer Ghazali Ismail; committee member (appointed) Fauzi Omar and the division's Wanita chief, Pauziah Che Wook, for three years or one election term for committing political corruption.

The Rantau Panjang seat was won by Siti Zailah Mohd Yusof of PAS who defeated Mohd Afandi Yusoff of Umno and Isma Airfath who contested using the logo of a tiger's head.
